Learn to Make Silver Jewellery
Come and spend a half day or full day with me to make silver jewellery in my studio in the artistic Bay area of the south Lake District, Cumbria.
Options:
1. Short and simple: £60 per student. A quick, half day session from 10am - 1pm where up to 4 students can learn basic techniques in how to make a simple silver ring or pendant. Sterling silver included, but bring your own drinks and something to eat. Suitable for complete beginners or if you're looking for a rainy day activity.
Making silver jewellery isn't delicate - it involves sawing, hammering, piercing, forming, filing, heating, soldering, milling, pickling in acid, and using various grades of polish. So it's the ideal time to wear those old comfy clothes and trainers.
In case you are wondering... I am a qualified and experienced teacher (BA Community Education, PGCE Academic Practice, NVQ 1 + 2 Craft and Design - silversmithing). I am also DBS checked, and insured.
2. Make a Day of it: £130 per student. A full day of tuition from 10am - 4pm, with a break for lunch (if you can tear yourself away from what you are making!). Learn how to make a more complex piece of jewellery incorporating your own design ideas. A ring, pendant, earrings or brooch. Sterling silver and basic lunch included. You're guaranteed to go home with a lovely piece of jewellery to wear or give as a gift. suitable for beginners or more experienced makers.
3. Make it Technical: £60 for a half day or £130 for a full day. Having trouble with a particular jewellery making technique - using the piercing saw, soldering, finishing, stone setting etc.? Spend half a day or a day learning more about the skill you want to master/mistress, using practice pieces and getting the piece you are working on to turn out well. Beyond beginners.
4. Remote Learning: £20 for 30 mins for an online Zoom meeting to show me what you're making and struggling with. I can have a look at your technique and provide friendly advice and support from one maker to another. Beginners and more experienced makers.
5. Prefer to learn in a group with others?: I offer day workshops at Appleby Hub in Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria where students all learn how to make the same piece of jewellery eg a spinner ring or a bangle. Sterling silver and lunch included, and you're also supporting a local charity. The Eden Workshop at Appleby Hub
6: A Day to Remember: £300 per couple, plus the cost of your metal of choice. Come to my workshop for a "Just the Two of Us" special day to make your own wedding rings to your own design in Fine, Argentium or Sterling silver or Yellow, Rose or White gold. Includes tuition and supervision, your metal of choice, a picnic lunch with local ingredients, a toast to your rings at the end of the day and hallmarking. You're guaranteed to both leave with beautiful rings that you've handcrafted yourselves and intend to wear forever.
